Nelson the Seagull is nestled in the vibrant and historic neighbourhood of Gastown. Since 2011 our family-run business has specialized in sourdough bread, brunch and coffee. Our menu is influenced by the belief that simple high quality ingredients are always best, especially when paired with our signature sourdough bread. Our sourdough can be purchased as full loaves in store or online. 

Located in one of Vancouver’s oldest heritage buildings, our open concept space welcomes everyone and anyone. While you’re here, look around carefully and you might just spot a few nods to South Africa sprinkled here and there. 

Our name was inspired by a South African folk song called “The Seagull’s Name Was Nelson” written by Peter E. Bennett. This song is a classic South African tune which we grew up hearing on the radio performed by folk duo Des and Dawn Lindbergh.
